Partners in Prevention
Vista Community Clinic’s North Coastal Prevention Coalition programs partnered with middle and high schools throughout the year to prevent and reduce alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug problems.
Over 1,600 parent pledges were collected from Vista and Rancho Buena Vista high school parents who pledged that ‘all events for youth in my home will be chaperoned and free of alcohol and other drugs.’ Nearly 60% believe parents today are less likely to allow teen drinking in their homes than they were several years ago.
The North Coastal Prevention Youth Coalition (NCPYC) group at Vista High School worked hard to prevent underage drinking, and shared their efforts at a national conference in Washington DC in February 2011.
Oceanside High School Forum
A newly formed group at Oceanside High School organized a forum in March 2011 for parents and teens they called ‘Be the Resistance.’ Over 100 people attended and learned about the tragic consequences of drug use from the Rubin family, who were recently featured on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The teens also attended a leadership camp through the County’s Friday Night Live Program and are pursuing establishing a prevention club at Jefferson Middle School.

Underage Drinking Forums
Spanish and English underage drinking prevention forums were held at Cesar Chavez Middle School in Oceanside on March 23, 2011.
8th Annual 420 Remix
On April 20, 2011 the 8th annual ‘420 Remix – A Celebration of Sober and Drug Free Life Choices’ was held at Boomers! Entertainment Center for youth in grades 6-9. Over 1,300 attended this free event for an afternoon of drug-free fun, and over 200 parent resource bags were distributed to encourage parents to discuss alcohol and drug issue with their children.
