1972 | Vista Community Clinic was founded by volunteers in the basement of the Vista animal shelter

1974 | Vista Community Clinic received its first governmental funding and moved to an old church building

1980’s | With tremendous population growth, the number of patient visits increased approximately 20% each year

1986 | VCC moved from the second floor of a small church building to its first professional medical clinic

1986 | Kare for Kids Fund was established to provide health care for children without health insurance

1986 | Holiday Homes Tour was established as the annual fundraiser for the Kare for Kids Fund

1988 | The Tri-City branch of VCC was opened

1990 | Health Promotion Center was established

1992 | Women’s Center was established to better serve the growing need for specialized services for women

1992 | Choices Teen Clinic opens to combat the rising teen pregnancy rates and provide work experience to local youth

1995 | Vista Community began renting the Horne Street Branch from Tri-City Medical Center at $1 a year

1995 | Vista Community Clinic partnered with Tri-City Medical Center in the Emergency Department Care Continuum project, referring uninsured emergency room patients to Vista Community Clinic for follow up upon discharge

1997 | Vista Community Clinic built its 29,000 sf facility and moved into the new Vale Terrace Branch

1998 | Vista Community Clinic became the fiscal agent for the North Coastal Prevention Coalition

2000 | Won the San Diego Business Journal Multi-Cultural Heritage Award, recognizing Vista Community Clinic for its diverse employment and diverse patient services base

2000 | Maternal Child Health Department was established

2000 | Pier View Way site opened

2002 | Vista Community Clinic became a Federally Qualified Health Center

2002 | Won the Kaiser Permanente “K Star Award” for innovative programming

2003 | Dental Clinic at Vale Terrace Branch opened

2003 | North River Road site opened

2003 | Vista Community Clinic begins to offer transportation for patients who cannot access the clinic

2006 | A Vista Community Clinic Obstetrics Panel was created to provide our prenatal patients with 24 hour access to Vista Community Clinic doctors at Tri-City Medical Center

2008 | Emergency Department Care Continuum project with Tri-City Medical Center goes electronic; monthly referrals jump from about 50 to more than 1,000 per month

2009 | Grapevine site opened, replacing the Thunder Drive branch

2009 | Won the American Cancer Society - San Diego Chapter’s Rising Star Award for excellence in cancer education and prevention

2010 | Vista Community Clinic is one of the first Community Health Centers in the nation to fully implement Electronic Medical Records and Electronic Dental Records

2010 | Horne Street site was purchased and remodeled

2011 | Coming Soon: Vale Terrace Branch Expansion
