Migrant Services

Migrant farm workers make up a small but important part of our patient demographics. There are several ways we reach out to this vulnerable population.

Health Care for the Homeless

Homeless individuals are eligible for up to three medical and dental visits each year. Vista Community Clinic provides health education and case management to the homeless population, including migrant farm workers living in encampments. Transportation assistance is also made available.

Poder Popular

The Poder Popular project educates Community Leaders within the farm worker communities. These leaders will organize health fairs, conduct food distribution events, and participate in community education projects. These community volunteers strive to improve the health and living conditions of their community.

Disaster Preparedness

During the 2007 wildfires, many families fled their homes after receiving a reverse 911 call. Migrant farm workers had no way to receive such a call. Vista Community Clinic is working with the Farm Worker Care Coalition in conjunction with the San Diego Regional Disaster Fund and the American Red Cross to prepare a disaster plan for this population and to provide the necessary education and supplies for such a plan to be effective.
