Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Virginia Purnell, has had the opportunity to work with various populations, providing direct client care. Virginia utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Virginia has a long history of working within the Trauma Informed Care framework, providing therapy to abused and traumatized clients. She has spent much of her career working in underserved communities, supporting and empowering clients to work on their goals, so they can live the life they want. She chose to become a provider with VCC so that she can provide therapeutic services to clients who are also connected with health services. Virginia believes that good health is a huge part of mental health and is happy to help make that connection with VCC’s patients. Virginia approaches treatment with a “person-in-environment” scope, while utilizing an equality and cultural humility lens. In her free time, Virginia enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, camping or hiking; additionally, she enjoys gardening, reading, and watching documentaries.
How do you help your patients “Choose Health”?
I help patients make good decisions by empowering and encouraging them to take action in their daily life to improve their health. For example, taking small steps to success/better health.”
